WWII US Service Member Souvenir Plaque, Nurnberg 1945

Description

This is a very nice souvenir plaque brought home from Germany by a US Service member.  It is from Nurnberg and is dated 1945 as seen in the photos.  The rear of the plaque indicates in English, "Bought in Bavaria".  It was made in the period immediately after the war for a US service member returning home after the war.  These types of souvenirs were made by local German craftsmen for US Forces stationed in Germany after WWII all the way through the Cold War through the present.  Those of you who were stationed in Germany anytime after WWII likely have a similar type souvenir in your possession.  This item for sale was the Grandfather of those items.

The item offered for sale is from my father's personal collection of over 50 years which began in the late 1960's through his recent passing.  Back then,
items were readily available directly from Veterans.
We put WWII wanted signs up everywhere.  Later when my interests were more of an adolescent nature, I was no longer involved in his collection which continued to obsessively grow.  Since the 1980's, I only had a limited knowledge of his collection activities other than particularly neat items that he found which we talked about on the phone.  His collection grew from trading, flea markets, Veteran's families, and later the internet.  I never had the vast knowledge of militaria that my father did.  So, mistakes on my part will be made when describing items.  I have described this item to the best of my ability but I am not an expert.
