Description
Van Briggle Cream and Sugar Bowl, c1930’s -50 In Turquoise Ming Blue Matte Glaze.Research conducted indicate:
These are cast from a mold, not to be considered Original which indicates they were thrown on a wheel. Each piece is clearly marked on the white clay base and was finished and etched by different artisans at the Van Briggle factory in Colorado Springs, CO as early as the 1930’s and as late as 1950, as was the common practice at the factory.
The etcher on the sugar bowl is known as Mr. Square G, who worked at the factory from the 1920’s-1940. The absence of ink on the bottom of the pieces indicates that these can be considered pre-WW2 pieces.
Relying upon experts who know more than me, please use your own judgement regarding this information regarding the date these were made.
The pieces are in really nice shape for their age, with some crazing, but no chips or cracks. Please examine the photos carefully to assess condition as they show the detail. I have not cleaned these, don’t want to clean them improperly, but they could use a good cleaning.
I have been told that these are not all that common in the collectors market, and my investigating proves that out. The only one sold I can find was in 2007.
Please ask questions and view photos prior to bidding as all sales are final.
