in June of 1972. Bowie had planned on doing something unusual - taking the cue from Jimi Hendrix playing his guitar with his teeth - and told Mick Ronson to just keep going, no matter what he did on stage.
Mick Rock was ready in the wings when it happened and printed the photograph that same night after the show. The next morning he brought it to Bowie who wrote on it in Tippex (White-Out), “Thanx to all our people for making Ziggy. I love you. Bowie x.” They ran it as a full-page ad in the July 15 issue of

Guitarist, arranger and songwriter Mick Ronson, who died in 1993 of liver cancer, is best known as David Bowie’s guitarist from the Spiders from Mars band, but he is a major factor in how Bowie went from Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, and beyond. Bowie’s mix of avant garde and rock would still have blasted him into the musical stratosphere, but Ronson established ground control.
Other memorabilia in the photo is only proof it is from Russ Gibb's private collection and NOT included in the sale.
The will of Russ Gibb provided for this item to be sold to benefit the students of the Russ Gibb Digital Media Center - WDHS Studios located in Dearborn High School in Dearborn, Michigan.
