    Description

    VAN BRIGGLE POTTERY
While our main focus is Carnival Glass, we often run across other collectibles or interesting objects to share with you.
    VAN BRIGGLE EWER
Lovely 11½" Ewer in dark brown high-gloss glaze with white drip overglaze in excellent undamaged vintage condition, with some crazing.
Marked in script Van Briggle (late 1960s), Colo Spgs, D 3 with trademark.
    Artus Van Briggle
was born in Felicity, Ohio, in 1869. Van Briggle went to work for Rookwood Pottery which recognozed his talents and sent him, in 1893, to study in Italy and France. Struggling with tuberculosis, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1899. There he developed his "dead" glaze and a clay mixture that would not blister or crack when fired. The Van Briggle Pottery Company was established as a stock company in 1902.
Artus died in 1904 and his wife Anne took over and the company was reorganized as the Van Briggle Company. The company moved to new facilities (Memorial Pottery) in 1908
    .
Eventually, after many ups and downs, and natural disasters, the company purchased and moved to the Midland Terminal Railroad roundhouse, sold the facility to Colorado College in 1968 and consolidated to one facility in the complex.
    Vintage Pottery
will have some identifiable production or post-production issue such as: crazing (a crackling of the glaze formed during firing); hairlines (you can catch a finger nail in one, and it may or may not go through); cracks (they go through and there may be minor chipping along them); drilling (a factory drilled hole is smooth and often glazed); chips; bruises ("un-chipped chips"); stains; glaze skips (blank spots). You should see these issues in the photos, and they may be mentioned if severe. You decide if they are acceptable or not. Be prepared for the reality of antique pottery, which often comes with birthmarks.
    Combined Shipping
