    Description

The French Mint issued 9 silver coins between 1989 & 1991 to celebrate the Winter Olympics games being held in Albertville France in 1992.  Each coin is 37 mm & weighs 22.2 grams (90% silver) - about the same size but a shade lighter than a U.S. silver dollar commemorative. This is one of the four coins issued in 1990. The front/obverse shows a male speed skater in competition with two other skaters, an Alpine marmot to his right (similar to a groundhog) & the inscriptions ‘Republique Francaise’ & ‘J. Jimenez’ - the artist’s name. The back/reverse has the Albertville Olympics logo, the coin denomination-100 francs, the five Olympic rings & the inscriptions ‘XVIes Jeux Olympiques D’Hiver’ (16th Winter Olympic Games), ‘Albertville 92’. Around the smooth/non-reeded edge, it says ’Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite’ - Liberty, Brotherhood, Equality - the national motto of France. Mirror finish coin - very good/excellent condition as shown in the close-up photos. Shipped in hard plastic coin capsule in light blue leatherette case. The hinged case is about 2 ½" square with the Albertville Olympics logo, ‘Albertville92' & the five Olympic rings in silver on the lid. The top interior is lined with white/ivory sateen with ‘Monnaie de Paris’ (the French Mint) in silver lettering. The case sort of creaks when it opens & it doesn’t fully close, i.e. the top & bottom lids don’t completely meet and stay together.
Additional note: Mirror proof coins/medals have a shiny reflective background. Some photos taken of mirror proof coins or medals may appear to have a blackish or grayish/black background because of the camera angle chosen to highlight the design & any surface imperfections.
Will combine shipping on multiple purchases.
